Moin, moin,
that's our way to say "hello".
We are a group of  four guys, who want to spend time with you writing e-mails. Together we are 68 years old. One of us is 18 and two others are 17. Guess how old the fourth one is??? We all live in different little villages at the coast of northern Germany.  Directly behind our houses is the North Sea. We all go to the Mariengymnasium in Jever.
Bye, bye
Dominik, Jobst, Clemens and Thorben

Hi there Dominik, Jobst, Clemens and Thorben!
My name is Tiffany, and I am from a small town in Massachusetts. I am 17 years old and a senior in high school. All of you seem really nice. I am really interested in some things about your life.
What television shows do you watch? Are there any that you like  that have come from the U.S.? I know that I really do not have time for  television, but when I do get a moment I enjoy watching FRIENDS. I am more into  the "Believe it or Not" type shows. This may sound a little strange for you, but what is the North Sea like? Is it really cold? Could you go swimming in it? I  really like the beach and the water, so anything that I could swim in intrigues  me. I wish I had a sea right behind my house! The ocean is about and hour and a half from my house. Ok, I think I have bothered you enough with my questions. If  you have any for me, feel free to ask! How do you say "Bye"?
Talk with you  later! Tiffany

Moin Tiffany,
thank you for replying to our last mail.
We think that we know your "Believe it, or not"-Shows. Sometimes they  are funny but we don't watch them very often.
Tengshausen, where Dominik lives, has got thereabout 20 inhabitants [cows and tourists certainly included :-) ]. It's very nice there, because the sea and dike is next to his house. He enjoys it there very well.
Schortens, where Thorben lives, has got 21000  inhabitants. The town that I live in is about 10,000 people. Our school is in  Jever, which has about 14000 inhabitants. You can find a picture of the castle  of Jever @:

What do you  do in your free(or not)-time? What do you think about cinema?
Did you visit  our website? Have you got a photo of yourself, too?
So, our English lesson is  over. So we have to quit.
Please answer soon, bye,
Dominik and Thorben

Hey Guys!
Glad to hear from you again. That is really interesting  about your towns. It sounds like where I live except for the fact that we do not  have many castles where I live. I wish we did though. It looks like fun! That is  my biggest dream-living in a castle, that is. I do enjoy movies which I believe  is what you mean by cinema. They are a lot of fun, and in a nearby town they  just reconstructed the cinema so it is beautiful. I have yet to go to your  website because I did not know that you had one. If you send me the address, I will be happy to go there. I do have a picture of myself, however, it is not on the computer where you can access it. Sorry!
Anyway, I guess I am off. I will talk with you later!
Tiffany

Hello Tiffany,
we are happy that you wrote to us.
You wrote that you like watching sitcoms. We are interested in Sabrina and Home Improvement. In German it is "Hör mal wer da  hämmert" - "Listen who hammers here". But ... our favourite series are "Simpsons" and "Futurama" - even in the original version. It's a good English  training. You wrote of some "Believe or not"-Type-Shows. What is it??? Maybe we know it, but we don't know this expression. The North Sea - also in the summer - isn't very warm. Twice a day the water moves away, that's what we call  "gezeiten" (tides). When the water goes back the floor of the sea can be seen - it's called Waddensea.
How big is the town you are living in? What kind of  shops are there? Do you like it there? Have you ever been in Germany? You can  find an introduction of us  on
http://home.tpp24.net/th.heiber/learning_circle_v_5/2.html
Have fun there!!!
Bye, Dominik and Thorben

Hey!
How are you? I thought it was interesting that "Home Improvement" is named differently. I like  that show, too, however. They took it off recently, and I have not been able to  see it. The "Believe it or not" shows that I am talking about are things like  "look at this girl, she has over 1,000 tattoos." Or police video tapes of high  speed chases. That is what "believe it or not" shows are like. I do not know if you have any. They tend to be really funny. The town that I live in is about 10,000 people. However, the town that I go to school in has about 2,500 people in it. It is very small. Then the town next to that has only 500 people in it. (That is also counting a few cows, too!) There is no real shops besides a few grocery stores. We have a lot of fast food places in the town I live in. Most of  my time is spent in the town I go to school in. That town has four traffic lights in the entire town, and that is because they just put in a new one. I do  not really like it here because nothing is personal. Everyone in the town knows who you are and what you are doing. It gets annoying quickly. I have never been to Germany, I am kind of interested in travelling abroad however. I have been to  Spain, and it was interesting. I like to try new things all of the time, so  travelling is perfect. Well, I have a lot of homework left to do, so I will write to you again sometime soon!
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany!
How are you? I watch "the fresh prince of bel air" every day.  It's so funny when Will makes fun of Carlton. In your letter you ask me what  kind of music I like best. Well, my favourite music is punk-rock, hip hop,  oldies and reggae. You surely know Bob Marley: Don't worry be happy. When I listen to this kind of music I can chill. What kind of music do you listen to? I think music is the best international language. In my opinion music is the best  medium to say what you think and feel. There is only one style that is out of the ordinary: Techno or house. There is nothing else that sounds more terrible than techno. You don't need any skills to make techno music because everybody  can make it. Well, I would like to know more about you and what you do every  day. So if you want to write back-just do it!!!!
Jobst

Hey!
I am doing well, and you? I have to admit it is quite  funny when Will makes fun of Carlton. I really like hip-hop music, too. I cannot  believe that Bob Marley's music made it all the way over to Germany! I will  listen to his music on occasion, and depending on whom I am hanging out with. You are right, music is the best international communication medium. No matter the language you speak, you can always tell how someone is by listening to  music. Techno is a little strange, but I can tolerate it. I think it is really  good to work out to. In my everyday life I am pretty hectic. I go to school from  7:30 A.M. to about 10:40 A.M. Then I get out of school to do my 2 VHS classes. Most days I work either at a radio station in the Sales Department, at an  auction company, or/and the dance studio. About 5 days out of the week I spend taking or teaching dance classes. If I have any leftover time, I usually spend  it with my boyfriend or with some of my friends shopping. But I am sad now because I seem to have NO money. :( Other than that, nothing much more happens  in my life. What is yours like? What do you do on weekends? Is your friend  Clemens having fun in America? Where is he? I did get to your website, so I was able to read a little more about you. I guess I will talk with you later!
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany!
Sorry, that we answer  that late but our dog has eaten our PC :-) No, in fact, we had too much homework to do and two tests to write (without multiple choice). You already know our homepage. You wrote in your mail to Jobst (where you called him Dominik) that  you have visited it. Which was the last movie you saw in the cinema? Our last films were "der Schuh des Manitu" (Manitou's shoe) and Monster AG. We think that you don't know "Der Schuh des Manitu" because it's a German film which probably  has not been synchronized. Last year it was the most-watched film in German  cinemas. You will see this film next year in American cinemas, too - look  forward to it. "Ice age" will be out in two weeks. Have you seen it? Have you digitised your picture? You can also send it via eMail! Do you know James  Cameron's Dark Angel? We watch it every week.
Bye Bye by Dominik & Thorben

Hey Dominik & Thorben:
Very cute that your dog  ate your computer. Watch out, I may see it on one of my favourite "believe it or not" shows! I am sorry that I got everyone confused- I was writing a lot that  day, and it is hard to keep everyone straight when I cannot match names with  faces. Anyway, I hope my attachment will work and you can see my picture.  [Teacher's note: No, it didn't.] You mentioned that you watch Dark Angel. I have  been told by, it seems like hundreds of people, that I look exactly like Jessica Alba. A common customer in the restaurant I used to waitress at used to call me  Dark Angel whenever he came in. I have not seen "Ice Age," and I probably won't  be able to see it in the theatres. I have a lot of busy weekends coming up  because I have dance competitions. Yes, I saw your web page. It was very cool.  Nice job to everyone. I read through all of them, and all of you seem really  cool. Anyway, I have to run to dance; I forgot all my shoes for this  weekend!
Tiffany

Hey Tiffany!
Are you okay again from your appendix surgery? Did you have to stop dancing for a while? Do you  also know and dance waltz? We HOPE that we can quit school in 2 years, but we don't think so. After finishing school Jobst wants to commit suicide because without going to school and being taught important things by our favourite teachers he sees no sense in life. Jobst wants to do something like entertainer because he is interested in amusing other people. His ideal is Will Smith. Thorben is already working. His parents have a printing-office, where he helps  and works. Dominik doesn't know yet. Where do you go to college? How far is it  away from your home? What do your parents say that you are leaving? When did you  start dancing? Did you want it or did your parents want you to start? What do you need to become a cheerleader? For what type of sport do you want to be  cheerleader? You also said that you work in your free-time. What do you work?  Our lesson is over, we hope to hear from you again.
Jobst &  Dominik

Hey Jobst & Dominik!
I am happy to say that I am doing really well from my surgery. I couldn't compete at one of my dance  competitions; it was actually the weekend that I had my appendix out. I was back  at dance fully by the Thursday of that week. I do know how to do the waltz, however, it is difficult to find a partner who knows how to, too! Jobst: Go for  the entertaining! I used to do television commercials and it is so much fun. I did a lot of professional acting when I was younger, and I wish I still had the time to do it now. Thorben: Isn't it great working for people that you are close to? My boss is my boyfriend's step-mom. It is wonderful because I get to pick my hours, and I get to go on some awesome trips with them. It has been one of the  best jobs I have ever had! Dominik: Keep thinking, you still have time to decide. There are so many fun things to do. If I had a choice I would definitely  want to travel all around.
Tiffany

Hey guys!
In the fall I plan to go to college at Quinnipiac University. It is in Connecticut, USA. The school is only about an hour or so away from my house. I cannot wait to move out! That is the most exciting part for me. My parents are sad because I am  leaving because I am an only child so they have no one to cook for. They really  don't want me to leave because they know that I will be on my own. I started dancing when I was three or four. I really can't remember. I was the one who  wanted to start dancing because my friend who was about five years older than me  would show me all the dances she was doing, and I wanted to do them, too. So I begged and pleaded with my parents to let me start dancing. I have loved it ever  since. I like it even more now because I am teaching and also learning from so  many really awesome choreographers. Cheerleading is a lot different from dancing. To cheerlead I have to learn how to do a lot of gymnastic tricks again.  I had learned them when I was little, but since I wasn't strong enough then, my parents didn't want me to do them any more. I kept hurting myself a lot, so it was for the best. I have a really loud voice, and so that is the only other  thing you basically need to have. It is a lot easier to be a cheerleader than a  dancer. I would be cheering for the basketball teams at the college. Anyway,  seeing as though I have written you my life story and all, how about some questions for you. What is your school year like? Do you get a long summer break? What holidays are the most important in your country? Who are some of the  people you idolize? What is the most popular thing for people? Where you live to  do in their free time? I hope to hear from you soon, and I hope that you all are  doing well!
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany,
we are happy that  you feel better. How long were you in hospital? 5 days? Have you really acted in commercials? Which product did you promote? Are the products popular? Why don't  you still do it? - Only because of time? How did you get it? Tell something  about it! One hour to school isn't that far. Dominik and Jobst need 40 minutes to school by bus every day - one way. Do you go home at the weekends? Then your  parents could cook for you - perhaps your parents do special meals for you. Are  you alone in the new school or do you already know some people there? Where will  you live there? Directly in the school, in a room, which belongs to the school  or in a private room? Our summer break lasts six weeks. A new school year starts  after the summer break, so that are our most important holidays. Then you have 2 or 3 weeks in the autumn, in the winter (x-mas-holiday) 2 weeks, Easter holiday  are 3 weeks. During the year we have some short-extra-free-days: first of may (day of work), Ascension Day (day which is celebrated on the 40th day after Easter in commemoration of Christ's ascension into heaven), Pentecost (Christian festival celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter), 3rd October (Day of the German Unity). In some states you don't have to go to school on carnival.  Jobst's idol is the star of the "fresh prince of bel air" Will Smith (or [wl phmiph], as he pronounces it). In our free time the most popular things are: playing soccer and other sports. We live in a region where other people spend their holidays. So you have a large number of free-time activities. Especially at the time, where no tourists are there (out of the holidays).
Bye, Thorben, Jobst & Dominik
